Dear Readers, This is the first issue of China Perspectives to appear in its new format. The journal will now be a quarterly publication, allowing us to expand the depth and range of our coverage. Of course this will in no way affect the number of issues covered by current suscriptions. From now on, each issue will contain a special feature devoted to a specific topic. These features will take a multidisciplinary approach, supported by the latest academic research in each field, to provide in-depth analysis of the major issues confronting the contemporary Chinese world. The current issue contains a dossier that looks at the impact of global warming and China's place in the negotiations on the follow-up of the Kyoto Protocol after 2012. In addition, readers who wish to consult our website will also find further reports and audiovisual documentation, as well as links to otheer research institutions, enabling them to continue to explore the topics addressed in the dossier. Furthermore, a new section designed in collaboration with the Asia Centre and drawing together articles from the electronic journal China Analysis , will now give access to critical commentaries and analysis of the Chinese press. Finally, in addition to the special feature in each issue, China Perspectives will continue to publish other research articles and reviews. The editorial team wishes to thank you, our readers, for your continuing support, and we hope that you will find the current issue a rewarding and enjoyable read.
